Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 15, 2026

ZipZap is a native macOS and Windows desktop application. We designed it to keep your data on your device by default. This policy explains what data ZipZap touches, when anything leaves your machine, and the choices you have.

1. What we collect

Your content stays local. Tasks, projects, notes, attachments, habits, daily journals, captured clipboard snippets, chat history with the AI co-pilot, and timer history are stored in a local SQLite database on your device. We do not upload them to a ZipZap-operated server.

No account required. ZipZap is free for everyone and does not require you to create an account or share any personal information to use it.

Diagnostics (optional). If you opt in to crash reporting, ZipZap may send anonymized crash traces and basic device info (OS version, app version) to help us fix bugs. This is off by default.

2. AI features and third-party model providers

Features like AI-powered task entry, Skills, smart capture, summarization, and the co-pilot send the relevant input text to the AI model provider you have configured (such as Anthropic Claude, OpenAI, Google Gemini, or a local model via Ollama). Only the text you choose to act on — plus the minimum context needed for the action — is sent. Your provider's privacy policy and data retention rules apply to that traffic.

You can disable AI features in Settings. If you bring your own API key, requests are made directly from your device to the provider.

3. Clipboard and selection capture

ZipZap can watch the clipboard so the capture popover can offer one-tap actions after you copy text. The clipboard contents are only read on your device and are not transmitted unless you explicitly trigger an AI action on them. You can turn auto-capture off at any time.

4. Downloads & updates

When you download or update ZipZap, your IP address and basic request metadata are recorded by our hosting provider in standard server logs, used to deliver the file and to detect abuse.

5. Cookies & analytics

The desktop app does not use cookies. The marketing website may use minimal, privacy-respecting analytics to understand traffic; we do not sell this data.

6. Data sharing

We do not sell your data. We share data only with service providers necessary to operate ZipZap (e.g., the AI model provider you configure, or crash reporting if you enable it), and only the minimum required.

7. Your rights

Because your content is stored locally, you can delete it at any time from within the app, or by removing the application support directory. We don't hold account data on our servers — there's nothing to delete on our side.

8. Children

ZipZap is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

9. Changes

We'll update this page when our practices change. Material changes will be highlighted in-app or by email.
